AUCKLAND, New Zealand, 24 September , 2020 – The Ford Puma has achieved a five-star ANCAP safety rating, with local models scoring well across each of ANCAP Safety’s four key areas of assessment. The rating was published ahead of Puma’s arrival in showrooms nationwide from October.

“We know our customers are discerning SUV buyers that demand a high level of safety technology, so Puma comes equipped with advanced safety features and Driver Assist Technology fitted as standard,” said Simon Rutherford, Managing Director, Ford New Zealand. “It’s important that consumers easily understand the safety levels offered in new vehicles, and ANCAP plays an important role in that. We’re pleased that Puma is the latest vehicle in our range to be awarded a five-star rating.”

“In both the side impact and oblique pole tests, protection of all critical body regions was ‘Good’ and the Puma scored full points in both of these tests,” said ANCAP Director, Communications and Advocacy, Rhianne Robson.

“In terms of active safety, the Puma’s autonomous emergency braking system is able to detect pedestrians and cyclists as well as other vehicles, and in these tests the system’s overall performance was rated as ‘Good’ with collisions avoided or mitigated in most scenarios.”

“Lane-keep assist functionality also scored well, with the Puma able to detect dashed and solid line markings as well as the road edge, and provide assistance to the driver to help avoid the vehicle straying from its intended lane or running-off-road,” Robson added.

While a striking design statement, safety and driver comfort is a primary focus for the all-new Puma, and an essential part of its development for more discerning, selective buyers in the hotly-contested small SUV segment.

Driver Assistance Technology, convenience and safety tech standard across the New Zealand Puma line-up – includes:

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection
  • Lane Departure Warning Lane Keep Assist
  • Traffic Sign Recognition
  • Cruise Control
  • Driver Impairment Monitor
  • Rear Parking Sensors
  • Tyre Pressure Monitor

  • Airbags – driver, front passenger, front seat side and side curtain
